It is important to understand that depression and trauma are unbalanced states in the mind produced by particular events. But you are not alone; those conditions affect millions of people worldwide, and they manifest with hopelessness and disconnection. Also, with a deep feeling of sadness.
I learned from my grandfather that mental disorders are related to spiritual illnesses. He considered depression as the loss of the soul and trauma as external or errant spirits that took advantage of a tragic event to take control of the mind, soul, and body of the person.
i am not suggesting changing your conventional treatment, pills, or therapies for our shamanic methods; we intend to show you that there are less intrusive methods with better and faster results than the ordinary Western ways.
From my experience, healing a person with depression or trauma has four steps, and the treatment can last between two and five weeks. This is an estimated time that depends on the kind of traumatic experience and the root of the depressive condition. Everyone is different and reacts differently to situations in life.
The first step is based on a series of conversations with the Fundo Vera Healing Center’s healers and specialists. They will decide which techniques and herbs will be used for every case. Most of the time, we will ask the patient to stay in the healing center during the whole treatment.
The first stage ends with the first shamanic ceremony, and after that, the patient will start a diet avoiding ingredients like garlic, onions, meat, and other spices and meals. Also, patients have access to a lot of fruit from local markets and our farms.
- We have fabulous chefs who treat our patients with the best of Peruvian cuisine without losing the dietary restrictions.
During the Second stage, the patient will receive treatment with the medical herbs diagnosed by master Vera. Those beautiful herbs require the patient to be in a peaceful and relaxed environment. In some cases, the patients can go out of the center and visit museums or take tours in the region, but in other cases, we recommend that patients stay in the center, at least for the first two weeks.
Between the second and third stages, the patients will participate in different ceremonies and will start to feel the results of the treatments. Some clues that indicate that treatment is finishing are the manifestations of the teacher plants in the patient’s dreams. Other clues are that the mood of patients will improve, and patients will start to see problems from different perspectives. This new perspectives will help patients to find solutions for their own lives. We can call the shamanic wisdom or life-changing experience.
In the fourth stage, we conduct tests to be sure the patient achieves the balance that was sought. We will also conduct similar conversations like in the first stage to get an idea of the patient’s progress.
Shamanic and Indigenous medicine are powerful tools that can help Western societies to treat different disorders, but sometimes, people see shamanism or Indigenous medicine in a romantic or idyllic way and believe plants and herbs will cure them. Part of this tendency is to create names to these practices, researchers and Western practitioners use terms like shamanic journey, or altered states of consciousness; spiritual awakening, and reconnecting with nature. From Master Vera’s perspective, everything is valid, but he has a theory that the most important components in a healing process are the medicine, the guide, and the mystic part of the brain of each patient. When he speaks about the mystic part, he means the background, beliefs, experiences, culture, etc.
Each treatment is private, and master Vera and his family walk through the whole therapy with the patient.
